A Current Affair has flushed out two plumbers accused of sub-contracting work from a notorious company banned from carrying out work for new consumers.

Jen, 81, just wanted to get her dodgy shower drain grate fixed so she googled Dan's Plumbing Aus, which said someone would be right over.

With glowing online company reviews, Jen expected a visit from a professional, instead she got a Brofessional. Brofessionals Plumbing.

Jen booked a professional plumber to fix her drain but the one who turned up was different to the one she hired.

Brofessional got Jen to cough up almost $12,000 to get the job started. She said the worker knocked off at lunch time and she hasn't seen him since.

Sensing something was off, Jen got a second quote from a plumber who told her the job should cost no more than $5,000, not the $17,885 Brofessionals Plumbing was charging.

"I was absolutely shocked, I was absolutely flabbergasted," Jen told A Current Affair.

It's yet another example of the elderly being caught in a spider web of plumbing companies involving familiar faces like Charbel Alha and Australian Trades Pty Ltd.

NSW Building Commissioner James Sherrard says authorities are playing a never-ending game of whack-a-mole trying to stamp out rogue traders.

"The ongoing investigation Building Commission NSW is pursuing into Australian Trades and its associated entities is one of the most expansive the standalone regulator has ever conducted," Sherrard said.
