Queenslanders wake to fridge floating in knee-high water in their family room
From metropolitan suburbs to the bush, there's an almighty clean-up mission underway in Brisbane tonight after a downpour battered south-east Queensland.
Elizabeth and Robert's home was hit with more than 200mm of rain in just a few hours overnight.
In four decades, their brick Bray Park home had never flooded, until last night when a waterfall of murky storm water poured in.

Elizabeth became emotional as she considered how the couple would pay for the damage to her home. Nine
The retirees were asleep at 2am when the power went out and they awoke to a large bang and a knee-deep pool of water.
"It came about two to three feet through the house, halfway up to the bed mattress," Rob said.
"We just got out of bed and it was up to our knees and the dogs were here like looking at us.
"The fridge had fallen over and was floating, and ended up floating out into the middle of the family room."

"It was fine at 12 o'clock. I got up and there was no problems."
To make matters worse, they don't have flood insurance - they say they've never needed it.
Brisbane's biggest floods in 1974, 2011 and 2022 never came close to their Moreton Bay home.
"We'll just have to find the money and do it," Elizabeth said through tears.
Just around the corner, tradies Reggie and Justin are in the same boat.

"Usually I get text messages about hail, flash flooding, anything - but I got nothing this time," Justin said.

"No warning, 12 o'clock raining then wake up two or three o'clock and flooded - full flooded.
Reggie's entire tool trailer, which he had bought to start a business this year, was flooded, along with his car.

"Every bit of tools I have is gone so I can't even work now - at all," he said.
"I've got nothing... a good attitude, I guess, that's all," Justin laughed.
Half an hour up the road the Morayfield Shopping Centre is swamped after a separate weather system hit the west.

Entire communities were isolated by the brown inland sea - the torrents even moving water tanks.
The monster deluge was over in hours, but the clean-up is expected to take months.
