Police called as couple ‘refuse to pay $7000 dinner bill’

A couple are accused of racking up a huge bill at a restaurant and attempting to leave without paying before staff locked the doors and things allegedly turned violent.

Marshall Thompson and Louise Leung were celebrating her 40th birthday in July at Ming Dining, a Chinese restaurant in Melbourne.

“They had a great time. We give whatever the good service we can,” manager Tony said.

The couple and their guests ordered up a storm and everything seemed to be OK, until the bill arrived.

They racked up more than $7000, but Tony says they claimed they were overcharged and refused to pay.

“He says, ‘F--- you guys. You’re a prick. I’m not paying a single dollar’,” Tony said.

“He abused my staff, he tried to assault me, he tried to punch me, he kicked the doors.

“He said, ‘This wine, we didn’t order. These drinks we didn’t order’.”

Tony says he locked the doors to stop them from leaving, and that’s when things turned violent.

Tony claims he was assaulted.

“He kicked the doors, he come down the stairs, then he started abuse me, and then he tried to grab my neck, grab my hands, twist my wrists,” he said.

Police were called and they managed to convince the couple to pay for $5500 of the bill.

Tony claims the CCTV shows Leung ordering the nine bottles of chardonnay plus everything else and staff checking with her throughout the night.

They even kept the bottles as evidence.

Leung denied they tried to walk out on the bill.

“That’s totally untrue, we did pay, but they overcharged us,” she told A Current Affair.

She also denied Thompson assaulted Tony.

“I don’t believe that’s true, and I think you should probably check with police for the actual incident,” she said.

Police are investigating.
