Thieves have stolen a rare Holden worth up to a quarter of million dollars.

Its owner, Yanni, has even offered a reward to help get his much loved car back.

Security footage shows three people breaking into the underground carpark of an apartment complex in Arncliffe and towing the Walkinshaw out.

"I spend all of my life thinking about building a car like this, I finish building and someone's just snatched it out of my hands," 39-year-old Yanni told A Current Affair.

Yanni had spent five years building the iconic car and had only driven it once.

The Walkinshaw didn't even have a battery in it and was always covered.

Yanni, who collects cars, described the Walkinshaw as "a beauty - perfect in every angle" and he said it was "cruel" of the thieves to drag it onto the street with a rope.

"The average person wouldn't know what the car is and wouldn't know what it's worth. They probably just think it's an old grandpa's Holden, sitting in a basement doing nothing," he said.

"It's definitely a Holden motorsport, iconic car. They made 750 of them, how many of the 750 are left? Nobody actually knows."

Yanni is even stumping up a reward for the car's safe return as police try to find it.

"The reward is up to $20,000 depending on how the car is found," he said.

The last time a Walkinshaw sold at auction in Australia, it fetched close to $250,000.
