'I want people to be appalled': Mum's fight after daughter's rapist to spend just 11-months behind bars

A mother who fought for justice after her 12-year-old daughter was raped has spoken out again over her daughter's violator's sentence.

In May 2021, Tyler Sullivan was charged with sexual penetration of a child under 16.

He later pleaded guilty to that crime, which holds a maximum jail sentence of 15 years.

But Tyler Sullivan will only spend 11 months behind bars.

In August, A Current Affair exposed this seemingly soft sentence.

This mother, who we cannot identify to protect her daughter, says too often survivors feel voiceless and "enough is enough".

"I want it to get out there. I want people to be appalled. I want people to stand up for victims," she said.

While it may be argued that the decision is not necessarily be reflective of community expectations, the judge's sentence will stand and it won't be appealed by the Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions.
