Moreton Bay homeowner wrestles armed intruder in his underwear

Terrifying footage has emerged of an underwear-clad homeowner wrestling with an armed intruder who was attempting to enter his bedroom.

Steve and Jane, who have asked their surname be withheld, were just waking up about 7am, when a woman armed with a pair of scissors broke into their house at Russell Island in Brisbane's Moreton Bay.

The incident was captured on security cameras, including one placed inside the couple's house to keep an eye on Steve who has a history of fainting unexpectedly.

Jane was the first to notice the female intruder, slamming the door shut before Steve arrived to hold it tighter.

While Jane called triple zero for help, the woman stabbed the door at least once demanding they open it up.

"I'm panicking. I don't know what to do," Jane said.

"All I know is grab the phone and dial triple zero, that's all I'm thinking."

When the attacker exited the hallway outside their bedroom, Steve seized a window of opportunity to disarm her wearing only his underpants.

"Well I got to protect my family, haven't I?" he said.

"There wasn't long at all. It's instinct to do what I've done."

CCTV captures the woman raising her weapon as soon as she spots Steve emerging from his bedroom.

Steve's demands to put the weapon on the floor are ignored, forcing him to lunge at her hand and seize the scissors from her.

A struggle ensues with 59-year-old Steve hit across the face before he eventually subdues the woman on the floor.

"It was exhausting. It's like she had superpowers, because she was very strong," he said.

For 25 long minutes, Steve sat on top of the woman - in his undies - waiting for police to arrive.

"He's holding her to make sure she's not moving. If she moves, she can hurt us," Jane said.

Adding she was "glad I got a big boy, or else we're gone".

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed a 40-year-old Boonoroo woman was arrested "following reports of a disturbance".

"It is alleged shortly after 7am a Boonoroo woman trespassed at an address while armed with scissors," the spokesperson said.

"It is alleged she was located with a small quantity of methylamphetamine in her possession."

It's understood that charges are still pending.
