Meet the feisty great granny who's found a love for boxing aged 91

At 91, Elsie Humphrey is a great-granny you don't want to cross.

In her ninth decade of life the feisty Melburnian has found a new love for boxing.

Mid-morning in the outer-western suburb of Melton, you'll find Elsie at the HitFit boxing studio with daughter Sharon.

It's here she first found her passion for the punching bag, after Sharon entered a boxing challenge at the gym a year ago.

"[Elsie] said to me one day ...'I've never seen you look this happy for a long time ...what's going on down there?" Sharon told A Current Affair.

"I said come down and have a look."

HitFit's Darcy Ellis says the boxing gran is helping challenge stereotypes related to the sport.

"We're probably one of the few boxing gyms in Australia, if not the world, that has more female members as opposed to male members," Ellis said.

"We do want to break that stigma that you don't have to be a macho man to do something like boxing."

And Elsie isn't planning on taking off the gloves any time soon.

"Coming here with such lovely people, you feel you're wanted - you know what I mean?" Elsie said.

"I just punch a bag and that's it. I said, if I punch it to bits, I'm not paying for it!"
