Why a grieving family is asking Australians to don a jersey

Ten years ago, 13-year-old Nathan Gremmo was killed in a car accident.

In the traumatic and deeply sad days which followed, his parents and sisters decided to donate his organs.

But, that's not his only legacy - his family started "Jersey Day"- to remind all of us to have the conversation about organ donation.

"We knew it was something that Nathan would want," Nathan's mother Kylie said.

"It made our decision a little easier."

Nathan's young life was cut short in 2015 when he was simply crossing the road.

His family's decision to donate his organs meant Nathan saved six lives, including a seven-month-old baby.

"We've received a couple of letters off the organ recipients, which are wonderful to get," his father Michael said.

"We love getting them."

His family are now asking Australians to take part in Jersey Day to bring attention to the value of organ donation.

Tomorrow, Australians are encouraged to wear the jersey of their favourite sports team.
