Families left hot, bothered and out of pocket by air con tradie

Having an air conditioner is a luxury in the Aussie summer heat.

But if it breaks down, it can be costly to repair.

So when Cameron Wright was offering his services for thousands of dollars cheaper, it seemed like a great deal for these families.

But they didn't know he was known to police or that he'd take their money and run.

Wright did not respond to A Current Affair's requests for comment.

"As the marketplace regulator, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) takes complaints against businesses seriously.

"The OFT is unable to comment further as the matter is under investigation.

"Before engaging a tradesperson, we urge consumers to do their research by checking reviews, asking family and friends about traders they recommend, and seeking multiple quotes for the job.

"Where the work requires a trade licence, consumers should also do a free check online at www.electricalsafety.qld.gov.au.

"Consumers who have paid a trader for goods or services but have not received them, should complain with the OFT.
