Maggie Tabberer was one of Australia's first multimedia superstars.

She started as a model and became a fashion icon and magazine editor before crossing over to television, winning two gold Logies.

Today we lost an icon, days shy of her 88th birthday.

Recounting some of her favourite memories of Tabberer, model and magazine editor Deborah Hutton described her dear friend and mentor as "an amazing, magical human being".

"She's always been such a force and, you know, she's always held such enormous presence, I couldn't quite believe it when I heard it today," Hutton told A Current Affair.

"She was formidable - if you missed a line or missed a step you'd certainly know about it ... [But] she was very supportive of all women.

"She was very supportive of women who just wanted to have a go at something."

"There will never be another one like her."
