The latest isolation craze bringing fun to bin night

Taking out the garbage in the most glamourous and outrageous outfits has become the latest craze in a series of entertaining isolation activities.

Whether it's in a wedding dress, Santa costumes or drag, people are finding anything they can to bring a little magic to bin night.

"I get to recycle the rubbish and my wedding dress!" Melbourne mum Melina said. "I can't believe I finally get the opportunity to dress up, put my lipstick on, my heels on," she said.

For Melina and many others, it's also a fun way to connect with neighbours and enjoy being part of a community.

"Get dressed, put your heels on, put your lippy on, and put those bins out and wave hello to your lovely neighbours," she said. Radio personality, Dee Dee Dunleavy from 3AW has also joined the band wagon. "People have got a lot of time on their hands, in fact probably way too much time - now there's only so much jigsaw puzzles you can do," she said.

"If you can have little moments of laughter by dressing up in something stupid then go for it, it's wonderful."

Ms Dunleavy said despite challenging times, isolation has given people the opportunity to be creative and resourceful. "When we were kids, there weren't so many things to play with at our disposal so we had to adapt and make our own fun so this is people making their own fun which is wonderful."
