Magistrate's s scathing rebuke of first Aussie jailed for breaking COVID-19 quarantine
The first Australian to be jailed for breaking quarantine regulations because he "missed his girlfriend" has been sentenced to one month in prison and a $2000 fine.
Jonathan David, 35, pleaded guilty to two charges today of failing to comply with a direction.
Mr David is originally from Victoria but flew to Perth to be with his girlfriend.
He meant to stay with her in quarantine for two weeks, but they had a falling out and was told he had to stay at Travel Lodge, according to crime reporter Simon Bouda.

Despite being ordered to remain in quarantine for 14 days, Mr David was seen making five separate attempts to escape from Travel Lodge, at one point using a napkin to keep the fire escape door ajar.
The magistrate in court today delivered a scathing rebuke of Mr David's actions.
"You chose to roll the dice with other people's lives. We must protect the community from those who do not care," she told Mr David.
