The loved ones of a young woman who died after contracting COVID-19 in Sydney have paid tribute to the hard-working student.

Adriana Midori Takara was just 39 and had no underlying health conditions but when she contracted COVID-19, she went downhill quickly and never recovered.

Now her brother and best friend want the arguments over vaccines to stop and for people to remember that lives and loved ones are being lost, urging people to remember she was a real person.

"Adriana was a very special person. She was always very humble, down to earth, a kind and very caring person," Ms Takara's brother Helio said, paying tribute to his sister.

"Me as a brother and all her friends we know how special she was … it's been very difficult."

Best friend Fernanda believes Ms Takara might have caught COVID-19 from her housemate and said she deteriorated "very quickly" within a week.

Both Fernanda and Helio said neither of them had any idea COVID-19 could hit someone fit, healthy and young like Ms Takara in the way it did.

"It was just so quick everything happened, yeah it's just ... it will still be hard to believe and we still slowly processing all this," her brother said.

"We got a chance to get an exemption to see her when she was in ICU in her final moments," Helio said.

"Doctors said it was a very critical condition so they got us one exemption to go there and see her and say our goodbyes."

But Helio said one of the most difficult things has been having her family so far away in Brazil.

"I'm trying to get her to Brazil as soon as possible so we can all be together again, and they can say their goodbyes too to her as well," he said.

Her brother said his family are heartbroken with distance also making it a barrier for them to say goodbye.

Fernanda and Helio said they believe Ms Takara hadn't been vaccinated yet due to her age and not yet being eligible.

"What I know is because she was 39 it (was) still not her age to be able to make a booking for the vaccine, that is all that what I know," Helio said.

Ms Takara's flatmate was also infected with COVID-19.

Her friend and brother said they believed the flatmate was in isolation and had since recovered.

While her boyfriend is also physically ok after contracting COVID-19, Fernanda said, "emotionally, he's not fine".

Fernanda and Helio said they want to remember the "amazing person" Ms Takara was.

"Adriana is just an amazing person, always the person who had a nice word to say to you, always smiling," Helio said.
