Law student loses 'cash is king' fight over parking fine

A Current Affair recently met Oliver, who took his parking fine to court because he wanted to pay in cash.

The student who calls himself the Cash King is back and more broke than ever.

Last month he launched a total rebellion against modern payment rules when he was given a parking fine.

"The university started making parking cashless, which I didn't realise at the time," he said.

"I, being a normal university student, didn't have money in my bank account."

So Oliver wrote a note.

It said: "Dear parking inspector, cash is Australia's legal tender. I am not available to pay by card right, but I can pay only pay in cash I'll come down right now and pay. Here's my number, give me a ring."

Oliver was fined $97.

The University of Wollongong law student took his fight to court, representing himself and arguing "cash is king".

"If I am wrong, let the judge tell me I am wrong," he said.

Well, a magistrate has now told Oliver he was wrong.
