Sydney council's plans to turn public car parks into housing sparks backlash

Across Australia, the push is on to build more housing, particularly apartments close to where people work.

But a Sydney council's proposal to convert a public carpark in bustling Marrickville into affordable housing is being labelled as counterintuitive.

Locals say finding a park in the trendy suburb is already hard enough, and losing any more spaces will drive shoppers away, to the detriment of small businesses.
