Bondi Beach retirees gearing up to fight plans for 'concrete bunker' development
Gillian, Darryl and Jo thought they'd live out their final years in picturesque Bondi Beach.
Instead they're now gearing up for a battle against a developer who is planning what they've called a concrete bunker next door to their retirement village.
"I will have absolutely no light whatsoever. I will not be able to see the blue sky, and I will not have any ventilation. I won't have any air coming in," Darryl Bourke said of the proposed development.

Waverley Council statement:
The development application for 32 Campbel Parade, Bondi Beach was lodged on 15 September and is currently in the notification stage. It has not yet been assessed by Waverley Council.
In line with Council's Community Engagement Strategy, surrounding residents and property owners were notified of the development application via a letter and site notice.
Residents can lodge a submission in writing and made prior to the end of the
notification period. Notwithstanding, Council will also accept submissions made
outside of the notification period.
Resident concerns will be reviewed during the assessment of the application.
During the assessment period, Council staff will consider the application against the relevant planning legislation, including the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021 which allows up to 30 per cent uplift in height and floor space, along with the submissions received.
In the assessment report, Council will address any issues raised.
The Waverley Local Planning Panel is the consent authority for this application with the decision being made independently of Council.
