Barry’s Bank Battle

Barry Lakeman is sick of being kicked while he’s down.

Not only is the dedicated father and husband battling cancer, he says his bank wiped their hands of him after someone used his personal details to steal his identity and run up huge debts.

Statement from Bank West:

Bankwest confirms the documents found in Victoria consisted of printed versions of the customers’ bank statements made from within the customers’ online banking login and a Bankwest letter received by the customers via fax. 

Separately, there is a document confirming that the fax was sent from Bankwest to the customer. This document was not one of those found in Victoria, indicating the found documents did not emanate from Bankwest.

Bankwest confirms that, as part of an investigation by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), Mr Lakeman’s concerns and allegations were thoroughly reviewed in 2015 and no fault was found with Bankwest’s conduct.

This position was supported by a finding handed down by the Financial Ombudsman Service.
