Aussie Lyme disease sufferers claim they can't get treatment for debilitating sickness

Lyme disease is recognised as a serious illness around the world.

But on home soil, it's one of the most contested and controversial medical issues in the country.

Spread through a tick bite, the disease quickly affects the joints, heart, and nervous system.

A-listers like Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, and Bella Hadid have brought international recognition to the brutal reality of the disease.

But Australia remains locked in a medical stalemate.

Despite two Senate inquiries, the government still maintains the illness doesn't exist here, claiming there's no scientific evidence that proves local animals or ticks carry it.

Yet patients say they're living in a never-ending nightmare, suffering from a very real and debilitating disease.
