Supermarkets share their ultimate budget Christmas menus

With less than six weeks left until Christmas, Aldi and IGA have shared their ultimate holiday season budget guides for those still unsure what to cook.

"This will feed all of your friends and family at Christmas," Kylie Warnke from Aldi told A Current Affair.

"We're really proud of the range that Black and Gold has become," Estelle from IGA said.

Aldi's Christmas menus

Warnke said Aldi has put together three different menus which comes to a cost of $9 per person.

Menu one

• Scallops wrapped in maple-flavoured bacon – $12.99 for a six-pack

• Australian leg ham – $8.49 per kg

• Honey-glazed parsnips

• Salad

• Classic chocolate pudding

• Something extra (not included in the budget): Lobster tails – $34.99 for a two-pack

Menu two (for meat lovers)

• Turducken – $29.99

• Turkey Kyiv balls – $5.99 for an eight-pack

• Cauliflower bake – $6.49

• Turkey wrapped in bacon – $24.99

• Something extra (not included in the budget): Award-winning South Point Pino Grigio – $4.99

Menu three (for seafood lovers)

• Salmon puffs – $4.99 for an eight-pack

• Salmon Wellington – $12.99

• Duck fat potatoes – $3.99

• Something extra (not included in the budget): Frozen Australian tiger prawns – $24.99 per kg

IGA's Black and Gold range

IGA is joining in on the Christmas celebration, proving Aussies can have an affordable feast with their Black and Gold range.

Estella from IGA said their feast comes in at under $100 and will cost under $10 per person.

One item on their menu is a butter board made of cream cheese for $4.80 that can be dressed up with dried fruit, honey and crackers.

For the entree, a packet of prawn cutlets comes in at $7.50.

For a main, Estella said the IGA ham comes to $8.50 a kilo.

"This ham has been perfected over decades and it's won a number of accolades over the years," Estella said.

Also with lunch, you can get corn on the cob and green peas, which are both found in the freezer aisle.

They also have affordable potatoes, fresh salad and show-stopping desserts.

"The famous Aussie pav (is) $5.40 this year," she said.

And according to Estelle, IGA's Black and Gold three-ingredient cheesecake also deserves its own moment for $7.16.
