'She just grabbed my throat': Reporter reflects on moment fear overcame her

When Dimity Clancey approached Thea Grogan to ask about her grandmother's trashed home and missing belongings, the seasoned reporter never expected what would come next.

"She just grabbed my throat and jolted my head back," Clancey said.

Despite trying to remain calm, Clancey was told by her sound recordist she'd gone white following the attack.

"I think any sort of fear is going to come over you and we were shaken afterwards," the reporter reflected.

Clancey approached Grogan, seeking answers for 93-year-old Shirly who was in a home with dementia and couldn't speak for herself.

Shirley's son Merrick contacted A Current Affair on his mother's behalf after the 93-year-old had trusted Grogan to take care of the family home, which was destroyed.

"You had holes in the walls, needles on the ground, there was just stuff everywhere," Clancey recalled.

The reporter said it was really important for the family that Grogan was held to account and that's where A Current Affair came in.

"It's our job to ask questions, it's our job to find out the truth for someone, to find out 'why'? for a family and that's exactly what we were doing that day," the reporter said.
