Statement from Meriton

Meriton supports small businesses. For this business, Meriton paid $200,000 cash towards the cost of fitting out the gym. Meriton also gave the tenant a four (4) month rent free period from the outset.

Despite Meriton's assistance, the gym has not paid rent or outgoings since May and has offered no real plan on how to recover the situation.

In the circumstances, Meriton had no choice but to terminate the tenancy and retake the premises in accordance with the Lease.

Another business should be afforded the opportunity to succeed at the premises.

NSW Police were in attendance this morning to supervise Meriton's retaking of the premises and raised no issue with Meriton locking and boarding-up the front doors.
