Due to privacy obligations, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is unable to comment on the specifics of individual cases.

DFAT can provide a general list of English-speaking lawyers to Australians detained overseas or requiring legal services in a foreign country.  The list of lawyers provided by DFAT carries the disclaimer that the information is gathered from publicly available information and that DFAT does not endorse any of the lawyers appearing on the list, provides no guarantees as to its currency and does not accept any liability if an Australian chooses to engage one of the lawyers from the list to provide legal services. DFAT does not intervene in local judicial processes.
