Getting it back can be a financial and emotional nightmare, but there are ways to protect yourself.
Statement from Australia Post
To ensure mail is secure we recommend customers:
- Where possible, use letterboxes that feature a mail slot wide enough to fit their mail through, but not so large that a hand can reach inside
- Make sure their letterbox is fastened with a sturdy lock, and
- Clear their mail frequently.
Customers can also opt to use a PO Box or have tracking and Signature on Delivery added to their delivery. Customers can also choose to have parcels directed to a post office, or use one of our free 24/7 parcel lockers by signing up for a free MyPost account.
Mail that is tampered with or goes missing from a resident's property after it has been delivered is a criminal matter and customers should immediately report the theft to the police.
An open investigation is looking into the incident involving Mr Dent.
