iPhone too pricy? Rating the cheaper smartphones
Apple unveiled three new iPhone 11 models today, and while it is being sold as taking technology to a new level, the product comes with a hefty price tag to match.
Technology expert at Finder, Angus Kidman has crunched the numbers for A Current Affair, revealing the best budget smartphones and cheapest prepaid plans hitting the market.
"Phones are so so good now that even the cheaper models are likely to be everything you need." Mr Kidman said.

For customers who are more focused on price over special technical features, Mr Kidman advised there are lots of good deals under $400, with good battery life, core processors and camera.
Oppo is the market leader with the AX7 retailing for $347. It has a dual lens camera, a teardrop notch display that lets you see more, and great battery life.

The Motorola Moto G7 Power is the pick for solid app performance and exceptional battery life selling for $358.13.
For other affordable options he said Huawei Nova 3e and Nokia 2.1 are good choices.
The Motorola Moto E5 is the cheapest of the bunch, retailing for less than $200.
Mr Kidman added, "once your phone is under $400 you can buy it outright and get the plan of your choice."

For better value, the experts recommend pre-paid deals.
Most pre-paid sims all include unlimited talk and text. Mr Kidman said the competition for providers is in data.
On top of unlimited talk and text, Amaysim runs on the Optus network and is offering a 28-day plan with 30GB of data and unlimited international minutes for $30 a month, while Vodafone offers 30GB of data with 1000 international minutes.

OVO Mobile runs on the Optus network and for $29.95 customers get 30GB of data and some international calls, while Telstra boasts 20GB of data with unlimited international minutes for $30.
