A 95-year-old woman has used part of her lottery winnings to upgrade her technology.

Ursula McCafferty, 95, won A$39,000 in a local lottery draw in her hometown of Canaan, Connecticut, Today News reported.

Mrs McCafferty designated most of her winnings to trust funds for her grandchildren, but used a small portion to upgrade her “little cell phone”.

"I already have a computer and an iPad, so I wanted to have a good phone with me to take decent pictures when I see something,” she said.

Despite being the owner of a new smartphone, Mrs McCafferty told Today News she wasn’t going to jump on the “terrible” Pokemon Go bandwagon anytime soon.

"I promise you I will not be one of these people diddling around with it and not even looking where they're going,'' she said.

"That's a terrible issue. The phone is supposed to be something for my convenience, nothing else."

Mrs McCafferty reported her star was on the rise after Connecticut Lottery announced her as a winner.

"Everybody has been very nice,” she said.
