Scooter-riding senior citizen 'spraypainted police station'

A 63-year-old man has been charged after allegedly spraypainting “Kingy Boyz Rulz” on the wall of a northern NSW police station, as well as tampering with its security cameras.

The man, who officers say arrived on the scene riding a child’s scooter, will face court later this month.

Tweed Byron LAC crime commander Detective Inspector Brendon Cullen told Tweed News that the man also spraypainted one of the station’s CCTV cameras.

Officers inside the station who heard noises outside at 2:20am on Wednesday struggled with the man, with one of them sustaining a shoulder injury bad enough to keep him off work for a week.

The apparently spry offender led officers on a foot chase for several hundred metres before being arrested.

"The actions we're alleging are quite irrational, particularly with police being in the building at the time," Detective Inspector Cullen told Tweed News.

He has been released on bail until his court date on June 30.

The scooter was confiscated.
