STATEMENT FROM VICTORIA POLICE

“A significant, wide reaching and thorough investigation was conducted by the Victoria Police Homicide Squad into the death of four related children in between 1998 and 2003.

Investigators also undertook to source information and statements from world’s best forensic and medical practitioners here in Victoria, interstate and internationally.

As a result of that investigation, legal advice confirmed that there was sufficient evidence to charge a woman with four counts of murder and those charges were laid.

The evidence was tested at committal and the woman was committed to stand trial.

After pre-trial argument, a decision was made in conjunction with the Office of Public Prosecutions not to continue with the trial at that time.

The investigation remains open.

As such, if there is anyone out there with information about these deaths then we urge them to come forward. Circumstances may have changed in people’s lives over the years and they may now feel they are ready to speak to police. This can also be done confidentially via Crime Stoppers.

We also appreciate that a matter of a similar nature is currently being focused upon in NSW and we are conscious that any commentary around uniquely similar incidents has the potential to impact that matter.

As such, Victoria Police does not believe it is appropriate to undertake any interviews on this particular investigation at this time.”
