For 40 long and painful years, Shanelle Dawson was fed a despicable lie.

After the disappearance of her mother Lynette in 1982, Shanelle's father Chris told his two young daughters it was their fault.

He brainwashed them into believing Lynette ran away because she didn't love them, leaving them to grow up with broken hearts.

But after decades of pain, Shanelle and the rest of Australia now know the awful truth: Chris Dawson is a cold-blooded killer.

"I feel a lot of anger and rage towards him," she tells reporter Tom Steinfort.

"He was manipulative and gaslighting us all the time."

This Sunday, in an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes, Shanelle opens up about her tortured childhood and her father's ultimate betrayal.

"I heard them say, 'Chris Dawson, I find you guilty,' and was just in shock," she says.

"I just couldn't fathom it really. It just felt so surreal."

And for the very first time, she reveals what she remembers from the fateful night that her mother was so cruelly taken from her.

"The truth is what, for me, brings peace."
