$109m Vic emergency training centre opens

Burning and collapsed buildings, a crash scene between a tram and a car, a fire at a petrochemical facility or an emergency in a rail tunnel - it is all possible at Victoria's new emergency services training centre.

The $109 million Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC), set on almost 19 hectares in Craigieburn, opened on Sunday.

There are 12 training props on site which simulate a range of real-life emergencies, including major fires and road accidents.

The facility replicates many scenes, including a seven-storey building, laneways, rail tunnels and a tram stop.

It will be used by the state's fire fighters, police, ambulance workers and emergency workers for training.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine opened the facility on Sunday and said it would provide an all-hazards, all-agencies approach to emergency management.
