Syrian girl, 7, tweets plea for bombing to stop after home destroyed

She is seven years old and the images on her Twitter feed are some of the most powerful you'll ever see.

Bana Alabed - with the guidance of her mother, Fatemah, who manages her Twitter account -  is making the world take notice of the atrocities in Aleppo, as the Syrian crisis continues to deepen.

Bana initially caught the world's attention when she was filmed walking around the rubble of what had been her home after a spate of bombings on the eastern reaches of the city.

"Tonight, we have no house, it's bombed & I got in the rubble. I saw deaths and I almost died," Bana tweeted only hours ago.

Prior to that tweet, she had posted video of large plumes of smoke which followed nearby bombings and pleas for the bombing to stop.

Throughout the feed, Bana begs for food to be allowed in, for the world to stop the war and on November 25 she posts a graphic image of a friend killed by a bomb, with the words: "Oh dear world, I am crying tonight, this is my friend killed by a bomb tonight. I can't stop crying – Bana #Aleppo".

In a show of hope, however, Bana also posted a picture of her "reading to forget the war" and she captured the attention and the heart of JK Rowling after writing a tweet on the Harry Potter author's page, telling her how much she loved the Harry Potter films and asking if she could have a book.

Rowling, who has retweeted Bana's posts about the war on her own feed, promptly sent copies of every book in the series to the little girl, who then uploaded a thank you picture to Twitter saying she had received the books.

"Hello my friend @jk_rowling, I started reading your books now, my heart is for you. Thank you. – Bana #Aleppo #StandWithAleppo." Bana tweeted.

The response? Rowling then retweeted with: "Bana, this made me so happy! Lots of love to your and your brothers! #StandWithAleppo".
