A young Chinese man who refused to play by the rules of public transport etiquette has learned a tough lesson after being beaten by a mob of elderly, but sprightly, passengers.

The man was riding the bus in Hanyang in the Hubei province in central China when he became involved in an altercation over his seat.

After a number of scuffles, the young man called the police, before forcing his way off the bus.

Chinasmack reports that the local police attended after the incident "to take away those involved" which hopefully sounds more ominous than it is.
