Irish social media star James Kavanagh has interviewed his 13-year-old nephew about autism as part of autism awareness month.

His nephew, Sean, explains what it is like living with “atypical autism” by giving an insight into his own personal experience of the condition through a series of snapchats.

“Loud noises and loud music really get to me,” he said.

“I don’t like people when they get too close. It makes me a bit uncomfortable.”

In the interview, Sean also said he has been bullied before and had to change schools.

“There was these two boys who kept pushing me and pressing my buttons, and I eventually left,” Sean said.

Mr Kavanagh asked his young nephew to pass on any advice to people without autism to help them understand.

“Be understanding, let them into your activities, use literal language and no sarcasm.”

Autism is a condition usually presented in early childhood.

It is typically characterised by difficulty in communicating and forming relationship with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.
