Even at 99 years of age, it takes more to shock Dorothy Olsen than the roar of vintage fighter jets.

The World War II fighter pilot was thrilled to hear the sound of the engines she once knew so well in a special birthday flyover at the Boeing Field near Seattle, NBC Station KING reports.

Ms Olsen was one of about 1000 female pilots who flew 22 different planes from factories to US Army Air Force bases during the war.

She blew a kiss at the planes above, telling the reporter “I’ve been lucky”.
