Tribe hauls giant anaconda from murky Amazon River

An Amazon tribe who wrestle fearsome anacondas as a show of bravery found a massive beast almost too much them as a BBC documentary crew filmed.

Joined by the film crew, a family from the Waorani tribe showed first-hand how they capture and release one of the world's largest breeds of snakes.

It proved a struggle for presenter Gordon Buchanan and the entire tribe to wrestle and haul the monster 5m snake from the murky waters of the Amazon River.

"Don't let go of the head or it'll bite me," a member of the tribe warns the BBC host.

The men of the Ecuadorian hunting tribe believe the capture and release of large anacondas demonstrates bravery among their peers and provides them with spiritual power.

Despite the physical exercise, the family take precautions not to harm the animal during the encounter.
