Netherlands tram shooter who allegedly killed three ‘confesses’

The suspect in the deadly Utrecht tram shooting has confessed to the crime and admitted he was acting alone, Dutch prosecutors say.

Prosecution spokesman Frans Zonneveld has told The Associated Press the motive for Monday's shooting that left three people dead and three seriously wounded is still under investigation.

The 37-year-old suspect, Gokmen Tanis, faces charges including multiple murder with a terrorist intent.

Earlier on Friday (local time), a judge extended Tanis's detention by two weeks after ruling that "the suspicion is strong enough to detain the man for longer", according to a court statement.

Tanis was arrested after a seven-hour manhunt on Monday.
