‘Wonderful’, fake London Tube tribute praised by MPs

British Prime Minister Theresa May says a digitally generated Tube sign that speaks to the legendary stiff upper lip of the British in the wake of the Westminster attack is a "wonderful tribute".

The whiteboard message, which was created using the tubesign website, reads: "All terrorists are politely reminded that this is London and whatever you do to us we will drink tea and jolly well carry on".

Theresa May declared the text "encapsulated everything everybody in this house has said today".

Tory backbencher Simon Hoare wrongly attributed the sign to Underground staff when he shared the viral affirmation in the House of Commons yesterday.

"My judgement is that he or she speaks for the whole country, irrespective of faith or creed," Mr Hoare said – though he perhaps could have added "fact" to the list.

A ripple of warm laughter passed through parliament at that, with the prime minister quick add her praise.

Nick Robinson, a BBC morning radio presenter who read the sign out on air later tweeted "well, you learn something every day."
