Woman jailed for not returning DVD

A US woman has spent the night behind bars for failing to return a DVD she rented out in 2005.

Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, rented the movie Monster-In-Law, starring Jennifer Lopez, nine years ago but never got around to returning it.

Several warnings and requests to return the DVD were sent to Ms Finlay – all of which she ignored.

Eventually, police in Pickens Country in South Carolina even sent her a letter asking her to bring back the film, but after she ignored that warning a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Oddly enough, Ms Finlay may have gotten away with her petty theft if she hadn't unknowingly handed herself into police.

After she arrived at a police station to report a crime officers noted the outstanding warrant and promptly charged Ms Finlay with petit larceny and failing to return a rented video.

She spent the night behind bars.

"It's obvious that Pickens County has nothing better to do,' Ms Finley told Fox News. 

"I fully intend on fighting this, it’s ridiculous I had this happen to me," she said.

Ms Finlay has since been released a US$2,000 bond.
