Woman impersonates Target worker to steal $50,000 worth of iPhones

A woman in the US has stolen more than $50,000 worth of iPhones after posing as a Target employee and wheeling the Apple devices out the door.

The blatant daylight robbery happened at one of the retailer's stores in Alexandria, Virginia on March 15, NY Daily News reports.

The woman, who police are yet to identify, walked into the store dressed as a worker before gaining access to the stock room and putting the haul worth $52,000 in a box and into a shopping trolley.

CCTV from outside the store shows the woman, calmly and casually, wheel the merchandise through the nearby carpark and into her car. She then carefully leaves the trolley before jumping into her car and driving away.

Fairfax county police said the woman has no connections with the store but reportedly has knowledge of the store's procedures, staff hours and stockroom location.

Police have released CCTV of the theft in the hope of identifying the woman.
