Woman gets head stuck in lift

Surveillance cameras have captured the moment a woman's head became trapped in a service lift in Russia and lived to tell the tale.

Café waitress Renata Kovalyova, 32, was collecting trays of food from the lift when she became trapped at a shopping centre in Saratov, a city in southwest Russia.

Footage shows Ms Kovalyova leaning into the shaft as the lift begins to move down, trapping her head.

She struggles to pull free before eventually passing out.

Security guard Maxim Artemoiev, 45, found the waitress slumped on her knees with her head still stuck in the shaft moments later after hearing her strangulated screams.

"I was walking up the stairs when I heard this horrible choking cry," he said.

"When I got to the top of the stairs I saw a body sticking out of the lift.

"Luckily, she was still alive, but how I don't know as it was really pinned down on her hard."

Ms Kovalyova suffered head and spinal injuries in the incident but is expected to make a full recovery.
