A woman has been charged with running a child abuse material ring in a New South Wales prison.

In April this year, police began investigating the production and distribution of child abuse material in a Junee correctional facility.

Detectives zeroed in on a group of inmates they allege called themselves "The Pack".

The group allegedly shared letters among themselves detailing the sexual abuse of children and future plans to do so.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested at Junee prison yesterday.

Police allege she called herself the "leader of The Pack".

She was charged with multiple counts of making and distributing child abuse material.

The woman was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court yesterday.

The investigation continues.
