'My flesh may be stabbed, but my spirit is unbreakable': 'Wire' actor defiant after club stabbing
Actor Anwan Glover, most famous for playing fictional Baltimore gangster Slim Charles in the critically-acclaimed HBO television series The Wire has been beaten and stabbed in a nightclub in Washington DC.
The 41-year-old actor, whose most recent work was in 12 years a slave, was at Café Asia in the early hours of Sunday morning when he was set upon by two men, he told police.
He was punched to the ground and kicked before hearing someone say, "He's got a knife". Then he felt a sharp pain on his right-hand side.
Glover was treated at George Washington Hospital and released on Sunday.
He released a statement to his fans through his Instagram.
"As many of your are aware, I was involved in an incident last night," it reads.
"While supporting another band at their show, I was involved in an altercation with some unknown people.
"While defending myself, I was stabbed. I was hospitalized and have been released. I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I'm going to spread love.
"I am recovering and will be back soon.
"My flesh may be stabbed, but my spirit is unbreakable."
Police are still investigating the incident.
