A dramatic video showing just how quickly Christmas tree lights can destroy your home has been released by London’s Fire Brigade.

The shocking clip, posted on Twitter, shows a small fire igniting from within the tree.

The flames quickly engulf the whole tree and then spread outwards.

Within forty seconds the whole room, including the furniture is alight.

The fire was likely caused by faulty tree lights which had been placed on a real tree that had not been watered, the tweet from the London Fire Brigade explained.

The tweet implored people to check the condition of their lights and to turn them off before going to bed.
