Video shows firefighters rescue moose trapped after falling through ice on Canadian river

A group of firefighters have rescued a moose that became trapped in ice after it fell through a frozen river in Canada.

 

Rescue workers were called to the Shediac River in the Canadian province of New Brunswick after the 225kg female moose fell through the ice,  CTV News reports.

 

"She certainly was not moving very much," eyewitness Ron Chiasson told CTV News.

 

"She was splayed out on the ice. When they did manage to approach her, she didn't try to get up or anything like that," he said.

 

Firefighters were reportedly able to chisel a path through the ice to free the animal.

 

Besides being a bit cold, it is believed the moose was not injured.
