A kind-hearted elderly stranger has made sure one veteran is honoured each day.

An 86-year-old man from Conroe, Texas visits his late wife Elizabeth’s grave twice a day, bringing her a rose from his garden each day and watering the grass around it according to a Facebook post by his son, Roger.

However Jake Reissig changed his routine one day when he saw a woman crying at a grave.

"He saw a young lady down from him kneeling at a grave and crying uncontrollably," Roger Reissig wrote on Facebook.

The woman’s husband Staff Sergeant Joseph Villasenor was in the US Air Force and died in a car crash in 2010, according to KPRC.

Mr Reissig decided to water the grass around Mr Villasenor’s grave each day as well.

"It was the least I could do for him, you know," Mr Reissig told KPRC.

The Facebook post has gone viral with more than 20,000 likes.
