A US woman was fooled into thinking her partner had proposed in this tasteless prank.

The perpetrator, known only as Dennis, planted a note with the big question along with a ring inside a fortune cookie for his female guest to open after dinner.

Tying the knot was reportedly a sensitive topic, with the couple having "talked about getting married for a long time".

Strategically placed cameras around the room were at hand to capture their reactions.
