Woman who live-streamed herself drink-driving avoids jail

A US woman who live-streamed a video of herself drink-driving has avoided jail after making a plea deal.

Whitney Beall, a 23-year-old from Florida, had been out on a night of bar-hopping last October when she decided to film herself driving, KLFY News reports.

“Let's have fun! Let's have fun!” Beall screamed in the video, which she streamed on Periscope.

“I am drunk on South Florida Avenue because I'm a drunk person,” she said.

“I am super drunk in the USA and the light is red.

“Fifty-seven people, oh I didn't know I'd get this many people,” she exclaimed, when she noticed how many followers are watching her on Periscope.

Two of the viewers called police and also helped explain to officers how they could use the app to find out her exact location.

“Within minutes we found her driving, flat front tire, she hit the curb again and it was just obvious from that she was intoxicated,” Lakeland Police Department Sgt. Gary Gross told KLFY News.

“She went through the tests, she failed and went to jail.”

But Beall will not be going to jail after agreeing not to contest a charge of driving under the influence.

As a result of the plea deal, Beall was placed on a 12-month probation for first time offenders and given 150 hours of community service.

She has also been banned from visiting any bars.
