Woman spends $15k on surgery for better selfies

An American woman has spent more than $15,000 on plastic surgery due to 'hating' what she looked like in selfies.

Californian woman Triana Lavey, 38, went through several painful procedures over a two-year period to improve her look for Facebook and Instagram.

She underwent rhinoplasty, received chin implants and had fat grafts to further define her cheeks in a bid to "look like a supermodel".

"I now have the face that I always thought that I had," Ms Lavey told ABC's Nightline.

"I look like myself, but Photoshopped."

She said plastic surgery should only come after other efforts, such as exercise and a disciplined diet, have been attempted.

The Los Angeles native was able to undergo the procedures at a discount because the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon she used was a family friend.

Ms Lavey works as a manager at a public relations company that specialises in developing talent via social media, and says the business is moving "at the speed of the internet".

"Your selfie is your head shot so you can reinvent yourself every day with your iPhone – it's legitimate form of promoting yourself," she said.
