Woman buried in wrong plot

It is the kind of indignation no one deserves – especially on the journey to their final resting place.

The family of Teresa Jaramillo were forced to watch in horror as their mother's dented casket was dropped by cemetery workers before being buried in the wrong plot.

"I was actually sitting right here when one of the guys dropped the casket," her daughter Mary Ann Chavez told northern Arizona news outlet WWLP.

"The top had a big old dent the bottom on the outside was dented probably from when the backhoe got it out, and then water just started gushing out of the casket.

"I started thinking [are] my mum's remains in water? Is she down there swimming in water?" Ms Chavez said.

Adding further insult to injury, the workers then dumped Ms Jaramillo's casket into the wrong plot.

The cemetery manager has refused to comment on the incident, but Winslow City Hall Manager Stephen Paulken has vowed to ensure something like this never happens again.

"Sometimes things happen, and if they do we want to solve the problem, we want to make people happy, we want to move on and we want to learn from it so it never happens again," Mr Paulken said.

Ms Jaramillo's family says that while nothing can fix what has been done, they would appreciate an apology from the cemetery.
