Wal-Mart’s oldest US employee celebrates his 103rd birthday and has no plans to retire anytime soon

Wal-Mart’s oldest employee celebrated his birthday this week, turning 103-years-old.

Loren Wade works five days a week at the Wal-Mart in Winfield, Kansas, with no plans to retire.

Mr Wade tried retirement in his 60s but reportedly got bored very quickly before applying for a job at the American super store.

He has worked at Wal-Mart for more than thirty years.

“I like being occupied,” he told US Today.

“I usually keep very busy with one thing or another, they see to it that I do.”

Apart from his time serving for the United States Air Force, Mr Wade has lived in Winfield his whole life.

His friends, family and co-workers celebrated his birthday with a party.

Mr Wade said there was no secret to his long life but he did appreciate his good fortune.

”I appreciate getting to be old and being recognised but like I say I’m still just a normal human being,” he said.

“I just happen to have been lucky enough to still be here.”

Mr Wade’s son, who is 80-years-old, says it is a blessing to still be able to talk to and receive advice from his father.

In honour of Mr Wade’s birthday and his military service Wal-Mart donated $125,000 to the Friends of the National World War II Memorial.
