Vice co-founder tells Fox panellist she would be happier as a housewife

The co-founder of VICE magazine has infuriated a US journalist by telling her she would be much happier at home with a husband and children during a live panel discussion on Fox News.

The exchange took place on the network's Hannity show after host Sean Hannity played a segment claiming Hilary Clinton had paid her female staff almost 30 per cent less than her male employees during her time as a senator.

Guest contributor Tamara Holder, a lawyer and journalist, takes umbrage with the claim, and begins to dress Hannity down for using what she considers an unreliable source in the Washington Free Beacon.

That's when self-described "provocateur" Gavin McInnes weighs in. "There's different ways to look at the data," says the 44-year-old.

"But the picture here is that women do earn less in America because they choose to.

"They would rather go to their daughter's piano recital then stay all night at work, working on a, you know, proposal, so they end up earning less.

"They're less ambitious and I think this is sort of God's way, this is nature's way of saying women should be at home with the kids. They're happier there."

"I hope that (Fox) viewers do not take you, sir, seriously," Ms Holder begins, before McInnes interrupts to tell her she should read a "great" book called Why Men Earn More.

"Your comments are absolutely deplorable," Ms Holder responds.

McInnes, a father of three, then begins to shout over the top of Ms Holder, telling her she is "miserable" because she is single, and that she would be "so much happier with kids around".

Even Sean Hannity – a man not widely known for his socially progressive views – has his head in his hands and a grin stretched painfully across his face while his staff can be heard tittering off-mic in the studio.

"You know what Gavin, you're not funny," Ms Holder says, only to be cut off again.

"I'm just trying to make you happy," McInnes tells her, as Mr Hannity begins to laugh.

"Sean, this isn't funny," Ms Holder says.

"Feminism has made women miserable!" shouts McInnes.

"Women were much happier when housewives were glorified."
